Report Reveals: Unprecedented Crisis Shakes the Israeli Army After the Gaza War

SadaNews - An Israeli report has highlighted a "deep crisis" within the Israeli army, as thousands of Israeli military personnel seek to leave service and retire early.

Israeli Channel 12 considered that the army "is facing one of the most dangerous crises it has seen in recent years," after more than two years of Hamas attacks and the subsequent war on the Gaza Strip.

It stated that "thousands of permanent military personnel are seeking to be discharged quickly, and do not wish to continue their service," noting that "this is a widespread phenomenon, affecting all ranks and levels in the Israeli army."

The channel attributed the causes of this phenomenon to "the exhaustion resulting from the war, the conditions of the military personnel, the damage caused by political tensions, and the manner in which some recent appointments were made in the army."

According to Channel 12, Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir is personally dealing with this crisis with great concern, being aware of "the magnitude of the problem."

The General Staff is also working on "developing a plan to address the military personnel's situation and attempting to prevent any legislation that would affect their working conditions."

In an apparent attempt to address this phenomenon, the Israeli government approved a decision on Sunday to grant incentives to permanent military personnel in the army worth 3.25 billion shekels (about one billion dollars).

After the decision was approved, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated: "The government stands by the members of permanent service, who are the backbone of the Israeli army and dedicate their lives to the security of Israel."

He added: "The decision will increase the support we provide in the areas of housing, education, and special benefits for our spouses and members of permanent service."
