Settlers Burn Mosque in Deir Istiya and Graffiti Racist Slogans (Photos)
SadaNews - Extremist settlers burned the "Hajjah Hamidah" mosque in the town of Deir Istiya, northwest of Salfit, early Thursday morning, and wrote racist slogans on its outer walls that are anti-Islam and anti-Palestinian.
Anti-settlement activist Nazmi Salman stated that a group of settlers smashed one of the mosque's windows and poured a flammable substance inside, which led to a fire breaking out in part of the mosque and damaging several carpets.
He added that local residents and civil defense crews managed to control the fire before it spread to other parts of the mosque, noting that the attack is part of a series of violations targeting religious sites in the town.
It is noteworthy that this attack is not the first of its kind, as settlers had previously burned the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib mosque in Deir Istiya, as well as other mosques in the villages of Marda and Yasuf, amid ongoing repeated assaults on citizens and their property.
Salfit Province and other cities in the West Bank have been experiencing an escalation in attacks by occupation forces and settlers since the events of October 7, 2023.
