President Abbas Meets with His French Counterpart to Discuss the Situation in Palestine

SadaNews - Today, Tuesday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas met with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysee Palace in Paris.

During the meeting, the President praised the significant support that France provides to the Palestinian people and reiterated his gratitude to his French counterpart for his country's recognition of the State of Palestine.

The President discussed with his French counterpart the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries and the two friendly peoples, as well as ways to develop and enhance these relations in all fields. They also discussed a number of issues of mutual interest.

The two presidents talked about the efforts being made to solidify the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, ensure the entry of humanitarian aid, the release of hostages and prisoners, the completion of the Israeli withdrawal from the territory, Palestine assuming its responsibilities, moving towards reconstruction, preventing displacement and annexation, and restoring lasting stability, paving the way for ending the occupation and achieving the independence of the State of Palestine, as a viable, democratic, and sovereign state in accordance with international law.

The President updated President Macron on the Israeli escalation in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the ongoing settlement activity, the terrorism of settlers, and the assault on Christian and Islamic holy sites.

The President also addressed the difficult economic and financial conditions facing the State of Palestine due to Israel's continued strangulation of the Palestinian economy and undermining the institutions of the State of Palestine. He urged France to pressure Israel to release the withheld Palestinian funds and to stop deducting any amounts under any pretext.

The President reaffirmed the full commitment to all reforms that the State of Palestine has undertaken.

Yesterday, the President arrived in Paris and, upon his arrival at the airport, reviewed the honor guard that lined up to greet him, and the national anthems of Palestine and France were played.

The President is accompanied by: Member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Ziad Abu Amro, Presidential Advisor for Diplomatic Affairs Majdi Khalidi, and the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to France Hala Abu Hasira.
