President during his meeting with the Prime Minister of Italy: We are committed to all the reforms that the State of Palestine has pledged to

SadaNews - President Mahmoud Abbas met today, Friday, in the Italian capital Rome, with Prime Minister Georgia Meloni.

The president arrived at the Italian Prime Minister's office, reviewed the honor guard lined up to greet him, and was received by Prime Minister Meloni, along with a number of senior Italian officials.

The president discussed with the Italian Prime Minister enhancing the existing bilateral relations between the two countries and friendly peoples, as well as a number of issues of mutual interest.

The president expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for Italy's significant role in humanitarian aid, hosting injured children, training police, participating in the European monitoring team at the Rafah crossing, and cooperation between Palestinian and Italian security agencies.

The president reviewed the latest developments on the Palestinian scene, the ongoing efforts to solidify the ceasefire and introduce humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, the release of hostages and prisoners, the completion of the Israeli withdrawal from the strip, and the assumption of the State of Palestine's responsibilities, moving towards reconstruction, while emphasizing the prevention of displacement and annexation.

He informed the Italian Prime Minister about the Israeli escalation in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, the ongoing settlement activity, settler terrorism, and their attacks on unarmed Palestinian civilians, the uprooting of olive trees, and assaults on Christian and Islamic holy sites.

The president addressed the difficult economic and financial conditions faced by the State of Palestine due to Israel's continued withholding of Palestinian tax revenues, suffocating the Palestinian economy, and undermining the institutions of the State of Palestine.

The president affirmed full commitment to all the reforms that the State of Palestine has pledged to enhance a non-armed democratic Palestinian state, to hold elections within one year after the end of the war, issue a temporary constitution and election law, promote a culture of peace, and hand over the weapons of all armed factions to the Palestinian state, including Hamas, which will have no role in governing the Gaza Strip, thus establishing the principle of one state, one law, and one legitimate weapon.

He renewed the request to Italy to recognize the State of Palestine, to protect the two-state solution which is being systematically destroyed due to Israeli policies, and to achieve peace based on international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative, and to achieve the independence of the State of Palestine along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, to live in security and peace with the State of Israel.

The president reiterated his invitation to Italy to continue playing its important role in enhancing security, reconstruction, and making efforts with the concerned parties to reach lasting peace.

The president is accompanied by: member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization Ziad Abu Amr, member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, head of the Presidential Committee for Church Affairs Ramzi Khoury, the president's diplomatic advisor Majdi Khalidi, and Palestine's ambassador to Italy Mona Abu Amara.
