"Failed Iranian Attempt" to Assassinate Israel's Ambassador in Mexico

SadaNews - American and Israeli officials revealed on Friday an Iranian attempt to assassinate the Israeli ambassador to Mexico, Einat Kranz-Niger, a few months ago, but the plan was thwarted by Mexican security agencies. According to officials who spoke to Channel 12 in Israel, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was behind the conspiracy, noting that "the attempt to attack indicates that Iran manages a wide-ranging terrorist infrastructure in Latin America aimed at targeting Israeli and American interests." Americans believe that a significant part of this activity is managed from the Iranian embassy in Venezuela. Channel 12 revealed: "The assassination plan began to unfold at the end of 2024, led by Hassan Izadi, an agent in Unit 11000 of the Quds Force within the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Izadi previously worked from the Iranian embassy in Venezuela, where he recruited and operated agents in the region." Efforts to carry out the assassination continued throughout the first half of 2025 before being thwarted last summer. A senior American official stated: "The conspiracy has been thwarted and does not pose a current threat." He added: "This is just the latest example from a long history of assassination attempts carried out by Iran around the world against diplomats, journalists, dissidents, and anyone who disagrees with it - a situation that would cause deep concern in any country with Iranian presence." A spokesperson for the Israeli Foreign Ministry said, "Israel thanks the security and law enforcement agencies in Mexico for thwarting a terrorist infrastructure operating under Iran's guidance to harm the Israeli ambassador in their country."
