Temporary New Suspension of Flights at Liège Airport Due to Drone Sightings
SadaNews - The Belgian air traffic control authority stated today, Friday, that Liège Airport has resumed flights after a temporary halt due to the sighting of drones in the second incident of its kind this week.
They added that they received a report of drones being spotted over the airport around 06:30 GMT, which led to the airport being closed for about 30 minutes, according to the news agency "Reuters."
Spokesperson Kurt Verfylligen said, "We must take every report seriously." He added that flights have now resumed.
The drones observed flying over Brussels and Liège airports in the east of the country forced many incoming flights to divert on Tuesday and prevented the takeoff of planes that were scheduled to depart.
Drone sightings over airports and military bases have become a recurring issue in Belgium in recent days, causing significant disruptions in various parts of Europe in recent months.
The Belgian government called for an emergency meeting yesterday, Thursday, that included senior ministers and security officials to address what the defense minister described as a coordinated attack.
