Guterres: Any Force Deployed in Gaza Must Have a UN Mandate
SadaNews - UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized that the international organization is actively working to ensure an increase in humanitarian aid provided to the residents of the Gaza Strip, in light of the difficult conditions faced by civilians there.
Guterres underscored the importance of maintaining the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, pointing out the necessity of connecting the Gaza Strip with the West Bank to ensure long-term stability in the Palestinian territories.
In this context, the Secretary-General praised Qatar's role in mediation, describing it as a "peace maker in the Middle East and the world," due to its ongoing efforts to calm the situation and contribute to resolving conflicts, including the Gaza conflict.
On another note, the UN Security Council is currently discussing a draft resolution proposed by the United States regarding the international force intended to be deployed in the Gaza Strip. Guterres affirmed that any force deployed in the region must have an official mandate from the UN to ensure its legitimacy and effectiveness in maintaining security and stability.
