Trump Orders Pentagon to Resume Nuclear Weapon Tests Immediately
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump stated that the United States will immediately resume testing its nuclear arsenal, without providing further details.
This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin announced earlier yesterday, Wednesday, that Moscow successfully tested a Russian underwater drone capable of carrying nuclear warheads, in defiance of warnings from Washington.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform just before his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in South Korea, "Due to testing programs being conducted by other countries, I have directed the Department of Defense to begin testing our nuclear weapons immediately," indicating that the tests will resume without delay.
Putin announced on Wednesday that his country successfully tested a nuclear-powered torpedo called "Poseidon," just days after declaring a successful test of a nuclear-powered cruise missile.
In remarks made during his visit to injured soldiers at a hospital in Moscow, Putin clarified that the test was conducted on Tuesday and that the torpedo achieved "tremendous success," noting that its power exceeded that of the intercontinental Sarmat missile, and that "there is no way to intercept it."
The "Poseidon" is described according to the limited published information about it as a self-guided torpedo capable of generating radioactive waves in the oceans to render coastal cities uninhabitable, with Moscow claiming it operates on nuclear propulsion and can carry nuclear warheads.
A source in the Russian military-industrial complex previously conveyed to the TASS news agency that the "Poseidon" torpedo can operate at depths exceeding one kilometer and at speeds ranging from 60 to 70 knots.
These developments come amid rising tensions between Moscow and Washington, as Russia continues to develop its nuclear military capabilities, while the United States maintains a firm stance against any potential threats to its national security and that of its allies.
The last time the United States tested a nuclear weapon was in 1992. These tests provide evidence of what any new nuclear weapon will do and whether older weapons still function.
