Maduro: The United States is 'fabricating' a new war
SadaNews - Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro accused the United States of 'fabricating' a new war, coinciding with Washington's strengthening of its military presence in the Caribbean region by sending an aircraft carrier there.
Maduro told state media yesterday: 'They are fabricating a new eternal war. They pledged that they would not get involved in war again, and here they are fabricating a war that we will prevent.'
The Pentagon announced on Friday the deployment of the USS Gerald R. Ford carrier strike group to confront drug trafficking organizations in Latin America, thereby reinforcing the U.S. military buildup that raises fears of war breaking out.
U.S. President Donald Trump launched a military campaign last September in the Caribbean, stating that it targets 'drug terrorists', which included the deployment of 10 F-35 fighter jets and 8 U.S. Navy ships.
American airstrikes targeting at least 10 boats have led to the deaths of more than 40 individuals so far, with their governments and families stating that most of them are civilians and fishermen.
Washington also announced on Thursday joint military exercises with Trinidad and Tobago off the coast of Venezuela.
According to a statement issued by the government of Trinidad and Tobago, the U.S. warship USS Gravely is scheduled to arrive at its shores from October 26 to 30, while the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit will conduct joint training exercises with the defense forces of Trinidad and Tobago during the same period.
