Hamas: Committed to Palestinian Consensus and Success of Gaza Agreement
SadaNews - The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) confirmed today, Friday, its commitment to Palestinian national consensus to resolve all pending issues regarding the governance system in the Gaza Strip after the war, noting that the second phase of the agreement requires further discussion.
The movement stated in a statement, "We are moving towards a Palestinian national dialogue and we call for siding with the existing national consensus in Gaza," as they put it.
Hamas reiterated its full commitment to the details of the ceasefire agreement and its keenness to ensure its success and implementation on the ground.
It pointed out that it has implemented the first phase of the agreement by releasing living prisoners and some bodies, confirming work on completing the delivery of what remains.
It reported receiving clear guarantees from intermediaries Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey, along with direct American confirmations that "the war has effectively ended."
It noted that the second phase of the agreement, according to the plan of U.S. President Donald Trump, requires more discussion and understanding with intermediaries because it involves complex issues, as described.
They also demanded pressure on the occupying government to fulfill its obligations, the most important of which are to stop the aggression, lift the siege on the Gaza Strip, and allow the delivery of aid, warning that Israel might use humanitarian issues for political blackmail.
Palestinian Discussions
Regarding the ongoing Palestinian discussions in Cairo, Hamas Political Bureau member Hossam Badran stated that the discussions aim to set practical steps for the next phase of the ceasefire agreement that came into effect on October 10.
This came in statements made by the Hamas Political Bureau member to the Cairo News Channel specifically, and the movement republished it on its official website.
Badran clarified that this round of discussions involves several key Palestinian factions, under the continuous Egyptian sponsorship of reconciliation efforts and national dialogue.
He mentioned that this meeting is the first of its kind following the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement, aiming to set practical steps for the next phase.
He explained that the Palestinian factions held bilateral and group meetings in Cairo, agreeing on a unified vision for implementing the agreement that serves the interests of the Palestinian people, especially in the Gaza Strip, according to what the movement published.
Badran continued, "I assure everyone that there is a Palestinian national consensus that includes all the files and issues currently being discussed," without providing further details.
Yesterday, Thursday, special sources revealed to Al Jazeera that a meeting was held in the Egyptian capital Cairo between a Hamas delegation headed by Khalil al-Hayya and a delegation from the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) headed by Hussein al-Sheikh and Majed Faraj.
The sources indicated that the meeting was convened to discuss the Palestinian landscape and arrangements for the aftermath of the war on Gaza. The meeting came following a gathering between Sheikh and Faraj with Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad in Cairo yesterday.
Recently, discussions began regarding the implementation of the second phase of the agreement, during which U.S. officials including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Vice President Jay DeVance, and special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss several files in this context.
This phase includes the deployment of an international peacekeeping force in the sector, the withdrawal of the Israeli army, the disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of a temporary management body affiliated with the new international transitional authority in Gaza, called the Peace Council under Trump's presidency.
