Jordanian Foreign Minister Meets with Sheikh and Faraj to Discuss Ceasefire Efforts in Gaza Strip
SadaNews: Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi held talks today with Palestinian Vice President Hussein al-Sheikh, attended by Director of General Intelligence Major General Ahmad Hosni and Head of the Palestinian General Intelligence Major General Majid Faraj. The discussions focused on efforts to solidify the ceasefire in Gaza, facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid to the territory, and launch the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
Safadi and al-Sheikh emphasized the importance of uniting all efforts to successfully achieve the first phase of the agreement and transition to its second phase, ultimately leading to the establishment of a genuine political horizon for achieving a just peace based on the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
They stressed that the Gaza Strip is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territory where an independent, sovereign Palestinian state should be established based on the two-state solution, and that all transitional arrangements must reflect this reality and entrench it.
The two sides reiterated their appreciation for U.S. President Donald Trump's efforts and his pivotal role in achieving the agreement, his proposal to end the war, rebuild Gaza, prevent the displacement of the Palestinian people, and advance the wheel of comprehensive peace, and his announcement that he will not allow the annexation of the West Bank. Safadi and al-Sheikh also expressed their appreciation for the key role played by the sisterly Republic of Egypt and the State of Qatar in achieving the agreement.
Safadi and al-Sheikh condemned the Israeli Knesset's preliminary approval of two proposed laws, one of which aims to impose Israeli sovereignty over the occupied West Bank while the other seeks to legitimize Israeli sovereignty over one of the illegal colonial settlements.
They also welcomed the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice, which was unanimously adopted today, stressing the need for Israel, as the occupying power, to comply with its obligations under international humanitarian law, and to agree to and facilitate aid and relief programs for the population in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Safadi and al-Sheikh affirmed their continued work with brothers and partners to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, which entails ending the occupation and establishing an independent Palestinian state with sovereignty along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, as stipulated by international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
