Poll: Most Americans Support Washington's Recognition of a Palestinian State
SadaNews - A poll conducted by "Reuters/Ipsos" revealed that most Americans, including 80% of Democrats and 41% of Republicans, believe that the United States should recognize a Palestinian state, indicating that President Donald Trump's opposition to this step does not align with public opinion.
The poll, which lasted six days until Monday, showed that 59% of participants supported U.S. recognition of a Palestinian state, while 33% opposed it, with the remainder either uncertain or not answering the question.
About half of the Republicans surveyed, or 53%, opposed the recognition, while 41% said they would support the U.S. recognizing a Palestinian state.
An increasing number of countries, including the U.K., Canada, France, and Australia, U.S. allies, have officially recognized a Palestinian state in recent weeks, provoking condemnation from Israel, which has displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians since its establishment in 1948.
The Israeli genocide war, since it erupted on October 7, 2023, has turned large areas of Gaza into rubble.
About 60% of poll participants stated that the Israeli war in Gaza is exaggerated, while 32% disagreed with this view.
Trump, who returned to the White House in January, has largely supported Israel during the war and proposed a plan for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The "Reuters/Ipsos" poll indicated that Americans are ready to recognize Trump if his plan succeeds. Approximately 51% of participants agreed with the statement that Trump "deserves significant praise" if his ceasefire efforts succeed, compared to 42% who disagreed.
While only one in 20 Democrats approved of Trump's overall performance as president, one in four said he should receive significant praise if the ceasefire holds.
