Trump's Deputy: The Endurance of the Ceasefire Agreement in Gaza Will Not Be Easy
SadaNews - The U.S. Vice President, Jay D. Vance, stated that the endurance of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip will not be easy, and it will be accompanied by some breaches.
He added in remarks made to the press from the Andrews Joint Base last night, "The situation is, of course, not ideal," but expressed his belief that this agreement, which began on October 10th, "still paves the way for lasting peace between Israel and its neighbors."
Vance said, "There is no doubt that the matter is complex... There will be fluctuations and challenges."
However, he emphasized his belief that this agreement provides the best chance for achieving sustainable peace. He added, "But even if that happens, there will be fluctuations, and we will need to monitor the situation closely."
Regarding the lack of a "strict timeline" from the U.S. President for disarming Hamas, Vance responded: Trump raised a very important point, which is that we do not yet know what the reality on the ground is... When we talk about Hamas, we are talking about 40 different, unconnected cells; some of those cells may respect the ceasefire, but many of them, as we have seen, will not."
He added that it cannot be said, "Hamas will be disarmed within three or four days, because we do not even have the necessary security infrastructure to ensure Hamas's disarmament."
Trump warned during a television interview yesterday, "If Hamas does not hand over its weapons as expected, we will do so ourselves," without providing any timeline regarding the issue.
These remarks came hours after accusations exchanged between Israel and Hamas regarding the violation of the ceasefire agreement, after the Gaza Strip witnessed numerous Israeli airstrikes following Israel's announcement that members of Hamas had fired at its troops in Rafah to the south. The Israeli army reported launching strikes on the strip after two separate attacks by Hamas occurred within the territories under Israeli control, one using an RPG launcher and the other by a sniper. Subsequently, the Israeli government announced a return to the ceasefire agreement.
