Significant Difficulties in Identifying the Bodies of Martyrs in the Gaza Strip
SadaNews - The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip announced that it is facing serious challenges in identifying the bodies of martyrs received since the recent ceasefire, emphasizing that the situation requires urgent intervention from international institutions specialized in forensic medicine and DNA testing.
In an official statement, the ministry clarified that it has so far only been able to identify 7 bodies out of approximately 135 received, noting that most of the bodies arrived in horrific conditions, with hands tied and eyes blindfolded, without any information or names provided by the occupying authorities.
The ministry confirmed that identifying the martyrs' identities has become extremely difficult and cannot be achieved without conducting precise DNA tests, which requires capabilities and techniques that are not available locally due to the ongoing siege and the destruction of health infrastructure.
The Ministry of Health called on international entities, headed by the International Committee of the Red Cross and the World Health Organization, for immediate intervention and to provide the necessary technical and logistical support to help identify the martyrs' identities and enable their families to bury them with dignity.
