According to the UN News website, Irvin stated that many residents have returned to areas from which they were displaced due to the war, cautioning that the removal of munitions will take a long time.
Irvin praised the vital efforts of civil society organizations and Palestinian NGOs in raising awareness about the dangers of unexploded ordnance, calling for financial and technical support to enhance their capabilities, according to the previous source.
The UN official clarified that the United Nations Mine Action Service has been operating in Gaza since 2009 and collaborates with various UN agencies, noting that its operations in the sector are currently being expanded amid increased population movement and the return of many to the areas they were forced to flee from.
