Witkoff and Kushner Reveal Their Reactions and Trump’s Response to Israel's Bombing of Qatar

SadaNews - U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed in an interview with "CBS News" that the Israeli attack on Qatar evoked a feeling of "some betrayal."

Witkoff said: "Jared Kushner and I felt some betrayal because of the Israeli attack on Qatar. The attack had a compounding effect because the Qataris were a crucial party in the negotiations.

He added: "It became very clear how important and sensitive the role that the Qataris were playing in the negotiations was. We lost the trust of the Qataris because of the attack, Hamas withdrew from sight, and reaching them became extremely difficult."

For his part, Jared Kushner pointed out that U.S. President Donald Trump saw the attack as an indication of the need to take a stern stance against Israel, explaining: "Trump felt due to the attack on Qatar that the time had come to be very tough with the Israelis."

He added: "He felt that the Israelis had started to act out of control in what they were doing, and that the time had come to stop them from doing things he sees as not in their interest."

The full interview with Witkoff and Kushner titled "Deal Makers" is set to air on Sunday. They discuss a personal meeting with Hamas during the negotiations and explain more about the next phase of the 20-point peace plan, which addresses disarmament, troop withdrawal, reconstruction, and governance in Gaza post-war.

On September 9, Israel bombed residential premises of Hamas in Doha, resulting in the martyrdom of 5 Palestinians and one member of the Qatari internal security. This Israeli assault on Qatar provoked widespread Arab and international condemnation.

The Qatari Foreign Ministry announced on September 29 that Israel apologized in a joint phone call made by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. President Donald Trump with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
