Trump: Putin Wants to End the War.. Zelensky: The Russian President is Not Ready for Peace
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump announced, after hosting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Friday, that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants "to end the war" in Ukraine, to which Zelensky responded from the White House that Putin is "not ready" for peace.
Trump expressed his hope for the war to end without Ukraine needing "Tomahawk" missiles.
The U.S. president described the attack deep into Russian territory as an escalation, announcing that he would discuss this issue with Zelensky. Trump said during his meeting with Zelensky at the White House: "You are right, it is an escalation; we will talk about this."
For his part, Zelensky believed that the U.S. president now has the "momentum" to halt the conflict between Russia and Ukraine following the ceasefire in Gaza.
The U.S. president expressed confidence in his ability to convince Russian President Putin to end the conflict in Ukraine, in response to reporters' questions before his meeting with Zelensky at the White House, saying, "Yes, we can."
Ukrainian President Zelensky arrived at the White House on Friday for a visit of significant importance, during which the U.S. president is expected to push for approval to supply long-range Tomahawk missiles capable of targeting deep into Russia.
Trump welcomed Zelensky and the two presidents stood before the cameras before entering the White House. This meeting comes a day after Trump's surprising announcement of a new summit with the Russian president.
