Gaza Municipality: The city is living a humanitarian disaster and the destruction has affected all aspects of life
SadaNews - The Gaza Municipality confirmed that the city is experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian disaster, as the impacts of the extermination war launched by the occupation have affected various aspects of life, infrastructure, service facilities, and both public and private buildings, turning Gaza into a disaster-stricken city as a result of the war's destruction.
The municipality explained that hundreds of thousands of citizens continue to live in the city under extremely harsh conditions, lacking access to clean water, health services, food, and shelter, amidst a near-total collapse of basic infrastructure. The widespread destruction has turned the city’s streets into piles of rubble, and public facilities have become disaster areas that are difficult to access or benefit from.
It pointed out that the destructive operations targeted roads, water wells, sewage stations, water and lighting networks, communication systems, municipal vehicles, parks, and both public and private buildings, leading to a near-total paralysis in providing basic services to the residents, exacerbating health and environmental conditions, and spreading epidemics in several areas of the city.
It added that the humanitarian disaster is expanding day by day with the ongoing aggression and resource shortages, indicating that the municipality is making exceptional efforts to maintain a minimum level of services, despite losing most equipment and machinery, fuel shortages, and the absence of the necessary support to carry out vital operations.
The municipality emphasized that the continuation of the extermination war threatens new disasters, especially with the approaching rainy season and the lack of sufficient resources to face its consequences, which warns of further suffering for the population that struggles for survival.
The municipality appealed to the international community and humanitarian and relief organizations to take urgent action to save hundreds of thousands of civilians in the city, support municipal efforts to secure the minimum of basic services, and protect what remains of the means of life in the stricken Gaza.
