The Toll Does Not Stop: Gaza War Leaves 67,173 Martyrs
SadaNews - With the tragic war continuing for two full years, the number of martyrs in Gaza has reached 67,173, in one of the bloodiest wars in the region's history. This toll reflects the magnitude of the humanitarian disaster ravaging the enclave, amidst ongoing military operations and deteriorating living conditions. The international community is facing increasing pressure to act, while calls for an immediate ceasefire and an end to the suffering rise.
Medical sources in the Gaza Strip announced today, Tuesday, that the number of martyrs has reached 67,173 and the injured to 169,780, including 20,179 children, 10,427 women, 4,813 elderly, and 31,754 men.
Medical sources documented the catastrophic impact on the health system, two years after the genocide war, as follows:
- The number of martyrs among medical staff reached 1,701, with 362 detainees under conditions of forced disappearance and deprivation of their human rights.
- 25 hospitals have gone out of service out of 38, while 13 hospitals are still operating partially under difficult conditions, and the occupation has destroyed 103 primary healthcare centers out of 157, with 54 centers operating partially.
- The halting of regular medical supplies and the obstruction of their safe arrival at hospitals, alongside the increasing number of injuries and martyrs, have exacerbated the crisis of drug and medical consumables shortages in vital departments, with the percentage of zero stock of medicines at 55%, medical consumables at 66%, and laboratory supplies at 68%.
- The bed occupancy rate in hospitals rose to 225% by the end of September compared to 82% during the same period last year, which is a catastrophic rate with the increase in admissions and critical injuries.
- Direct attacks on health institutions have led to the destruction of electrical systems and electromechanical systems, as 25 oxygen generation stations out of 35 were destroyed by the occupation, and 61 generators out of 110 were also destroyed. Levels of famine in the Gaza Strip have reached dangerous limits according to UN classifications, with 460 deaths recorded due to famine and malnutrition, including 154 children, while 51,196 children under the age of five suffer from acute malnutrition.
- The overcrowding of citizens in areas of forced confinement, falsely labeled as humanitarian, has exacerbated their health and humanitarian conditions with a lack of life essentials, leading to the spread of diseases and a lack of sources of safe drinking water and access to food sources.
- The prevention of routine and emergency vaccinations has led to a drop in children's vaccination coverage to 80%, in addition to the halt of the fourth phase of preventive vaccination against polio, threatening the previous phases' success with increasing disease spread factors.
- 4,900 cases of amputation and disability require supportive tools and long-term rehabilitation programs.
- The closure of the crossing for the movement of patients and injured has deprived 18,000 patients of traveling abroad for treatment, including 5,580 children.
- To this day, medical crews in Gaza City continue to provide their humanitarian and national duty despite the risks surrounding them, which pose a direct threat to their safety and the safety of patients and the injured.
