
President Abbas Welcomes Trump's New Statement on Hamas Response and Affirms Palestine's Future Role
SadaNews - President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed US President Donald Trump's announcement to halt the war and continue with the details, in response to the positive statements made by Hamas, which we appreciate for the release of all hostages and for adopting a constructive approach in this phase that requires everyone to uphold the highest levels of national responsibility.
President Abbas reiterated his praise for the significant efforts being made by President Trump to end the war in Gaza, move towards lasting peace, and expressed gratitude to the Arab and Islamic countries contributing to these efforts, namely Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE, Turkey, Indonesia, and Pakistan.
He confirmed the readiness of the State of Palestine to engage constructively with President Trump from this moment, along with all relevant partners, the co-presidency of the international peace conference in New York, the heads of working groups, and the Arab member of the Security Council, Algeria, as well as all Security Council members and General Assembly members, in order to achieve stability and a lasting and just peace in accordance with international legitimacy.
President Abbas emphasized: "What concerns us now is the immediate commitment to a complete ceasefire, the release of all hostages and prisoners, the provision of urgent humanitarian aid through UN organizations, ensuring no displacement or annexation, and starting the reconstruction process."
In this context, he stated: "The sovereignty over Gaza belongs to the State of Palestine, and the connection between the West Bank and Gaza must occur through Palestinian laws and governmental institutions, and through a Palestinian administrative committee and unified Palestinian security forces, within a single system and law, with Arab and international support."
He added: "We will continue to work with mediators and relevant partners to succeed in these efforts, leading to a lasting peace that ends the Israeli occupation of the State of Palestine and its capital, East Jerusalem."
He reminded the "international community of its responsibility to compel Israel to halt all its unilateral actions that violate international law, foremost of which is halting settlement expansion, settler terrorism, assaults on sanctities, and withholding Palestinian tax funds."
He affirmed that the independent and sovereign Palestinian state is the natural partner for stability in the region alongside the State of Israel, and it is time for lasting peace that ensures security and justice for all peoples in the region.
