Shabak Announces Foiling of an Operation Against Israeli Soldiers in Akka

SadaNews - The Israeli occupation police and the internal security service (Shabak) announced the foiling of an attempt to carry out a bombing operation against soldiers in the city of Akka.

The Shabak indicated the arrest of the young man Issa Madi, an 18-year-old resident of the city, on suspicion of being linked to the "ISIS" organization, claiming that "he was in contact with elements of the organization abroad."

A joint statement issued by the occupation police and Shabak said: "In a joint operation by the Israel Security Agency (Shabak) and the Israeli police, Issa Madi, an 18-year-old from Akka, was arrested in recent weeks on suspicion of belonging to ISIS, taking steps to manufacture explosives, and attempting to hinder proceedings during his arrest."

It added that "during his interrogation by the Israel Security Agency (Shabak) and the police's anti-crime unit, a dangerous picture emerged regarding his intention to carry out an operation, with an explosive device at a bus station near the train station in the city of Akka, against Israeli army soldiers, in addition to steps he had already taken to prepare explosives and bombs."

According to the statement, "the investigation also revealed that he planned to carry out the operation for nationalistic motives and on behalf of ISIS, and that he was in contact with elements of the organization abroad."

It was added that since the beginning of the war on Gaza, "the levels of threat from ISIS and its supporters in Israeli territory have notably increased, and at the same time, the involvement of Arab citizens of Israel in terrorism has escalated against the backdrop of the war's impacts," according to the two agencies' claims.

The statement noted that "at the end of the investigation, the Hadera public prosecutor's office will present an indictment this morning, Tuesday," against the suspect.
