Ahead of Trump-Netanyahu Meeting.. White House: We Are Very Close to an Agreement on Gaza
SadaNews - The White House stated, "We are very close to an agreement on Gaza," just before the meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The White House expressed hope for "the agreement of both parties involved in the war in Gaza on the proposed plan."
Trump is hosting Netanyahu shortly after his commitment to reach an agreement to stop the war in Gaza and reaffirming his opposition to Israel's annexation of the West Bank.
Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform, "We have a real opportunity to achieve something great in the Middle East," adding, "Everyone is ready for something remarkable; it’s a precedent. And we will accomplish it."
This is Netanyahu's fourth visit to the White House since Trump's return to power in January. A joint press conference is scheduled to be held on Monday at 17:15 GMT.
Additionally, Axios reported earlier on Monday morning that Washington and Tel Aviv are close to reaching an agreement regarding President Trump's plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
Axios's correspondent, citing a senior U.S. official, stated that the United States and Israel are very close to an agreement on the plan, following talks between Special Envoy Steve Wittekov, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu.
The Axios correspondent mentioned in a post on his "X" page, quoting an official, that Hamas's approval is still needed.
Axios's statements came after President Trump spoke about a positive response regarding Gaza, expressing optimism about convincing the Israeli Prime Minister to support him during today's meeting.
Regarding the nature of the agreement, the U.S. President simply stated that this agreement would not only end the conflict in Gaza but would also contribute to achieving broader peace in the Middle East; that everyone is tired of war.
In an interview with Fox News, Netanyahu confirmed he is working with Trump’s team to formulate what has become known as the "Twenty-One Points Agreement," stating that the details have not been finalized yet!
For his part, the Israeli Prime Minister affirmed that discussions with Trump’s team are still ongoing regarding the peace plan for Gaza, mentioning on the eve of his meeting with the U.S. President in the White House that there are details that have yet to be resolved.
In the same interview with Fox News, Netanyahu confirmed he would allow Hamas leaders to leave Gaza if they choose to end the war, lay down their arms, and release hostages, while noting that this point is part of discussions he is having with Trump's team.
