British site: All hopes to convince Putin have evaporated and war is now imminent
SadaNews - The British website "iPaper" published an analytical report stating that all hopes of convincing Russian President Vladimir Putin have evaporated, and that the war - which is no longer limited to just the Ukraine conflict - is approaching.
The report, prepared by the site's correspondent in Brussels, Leo Sandrovich, noted the agreement of European Union defense ministers in an emergency meeting on Friday to prepare plans for building a defense network against drones that covers the entire eastern front and protects critical infrastructure.
The Drone Wall
He stated that this defense network has been dubbed the "Drone Wall", which is not a magical solution, but at least indicates the acknowledgment that war is coming and that Europe must move significantly faster.
He quoted European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen as saying that Europe must respond to the call to build a wall against drones, using radars, acoustic sensors, and interception systems.
He also quoted NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warning that Europe cannot continue launching missiles worth millions of euros to intercept drones worth only a fraction of that, and that the deterrence equation requires a new approach.
He explained that Ukraine is considered a key element in this project, as while Europe has financed its defenses, Ukrainians - who have developed their drone capabilities at a remarkable pace - are capable of sharing their field experiences in developing and deploying these weapons, which have become a symbol of the conflict.
Britain's Strong Involvement
The report clarified that Britain's decision to engage strongly in the European project to build a "Drone Wall" reflects an increasing recognition that the war is no longer confined within Ukraine's borders.
The United Kingdom has begun - in collaboration with Ukraine - to produce large numbers of affordable interception drones, preparing to form the basis for an air defense barrier extending along NATO's eastern front.
The writer commented that the message is clear: the war is no longer just Ukraine's war; it is the war of all of Europe.
Russian Breaches
He added that the British initiative comes in the wake of a series of breaches that have made war dangerously imminent, pointing to breaches of the airspace of Poland, Denmark, Norway, Romania, and Sweden by what are believed to be Russian drones.
He also noted that three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets spent a full 12 minutes within Estonian airspace earlier this month, with Moscow claiming it happened "by mistake", which few believed.
Clear Russian Pattern
Sandrovich stated that Russia has begun following a clear pattern: Putin is testing NATO for vulnerabilities to see how far he can go without facing a military response.
Sandrovich continued to say that the time for betting on the possibility of convincing Putin is over, and that Europe is being pushed into a defense revolution, accelerating plans for joint procurement, air defense integration, and industrial mobilization.
In parallel, the author refers to a European loan to Ukraine amounting to £122 billion, funded by frozen Russian assets, stating that this step represents a sharp turning point in the story of European security.
