EU: We Call for Keeping the Al-Karama Crossing Open to Ensure an Effective Humanitarian Response
SadaNews - The European Union stated that the decision by the Israeli authorities on September 23 to close the King Hussein Bridge crossing to the movement of travelers in both directions and to the movement of goods negatively affects the freedom of movement between the West Bank and Jordan, as well as the humanitarian response in Gaza.
The Union called in a statement for keeping the crossing open to ensure an effective humanitarian response.
It continued, "This decision comes at a time when the Israeli ground assault on the city of Gaza exacerbates the already catastrophic and unsustainable humanitarian situation, resulting in horrific levels of casualties and suffering among civilians. Medical facilities should never be targeted. The European Union calls on Israel to take immediate and effective measures to increase the provision of urgent humanitarian assistance to Gaza."
The EU again urged restraint and reiterated its call for an immediate ceasefire and the unconditional release of all hostages.
