Israeli Drones Target the Solidarity Fleet Heading to Gaza
SadaNews - At least ten ships from the Global Solidarity Fleet aimed at breaking the blockade of the Gaza Strip were subjected to repeated attacks by drones in the Mediterranean Sea early Wednesday, amid the sounds of explosions and widespread communication interference aboard the vessels, with no reports of casualties so far.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Palestine, Francesca Albanese, stated that seven drone attacks targeted the ships after around 15 drones flew over the fleet, emphasizing the urgent need for protection.
For its part, the committee overseeing the fleet explained that unidentified objects were thrown at ten boats, causing material damage, while 13 explosions were recorded in their vicinity.
It pointed out that Israel is conducting an information disinformation campaign to justify any potential military attack on the humanitarian convoy, confirming that targeting it constitutes a war crime and a blatant violation of international law.
Activists aboard one of the ships reported that the drones dropped an unknown substance with the smell of gunpowder, with no injuries reported.
This comes after a series of previous assaults, as the fleet had previously announced that its vessels were subjected to similar attacks on the 8th and 9th of this month.
This coincides with direct Israeli threats to prevent the fleet from entering what it describes as a "combat zone," offering to allow the ships to dock at Ashkelon port to transport aid through it, accusing the "Hamas" movement of being behind the fleet's voyage.
The Solidarity Fleet includes humanitarian workers, doctors, artists, and activists from 44 countries. It set off from Tunisia earlier this month after several delays in an attempt to create a humanitarian corridor and break the blockade imposed on Gaza for more than 23 months, while Israel had previously prevented similar attempts to reach by sea in June and July of the past year.
