UN Security Council Approves Reinstatement of Sanctions on Iran
SadaNews - On Friday, the United Nations Security Council voted against a draft resolution for the permanent lifting of sanctions on Iran, but Tehran and the major European powers still have eight days to agree on postponing the activation of the sanctions reimposition mechanism.
The Security Council, consisting of 15 members, had to vote on the draft resolution on Friday after the UK, France, and Germany launched a 30-day process on August 28 to re-impose UN sanctions, accusing Tehran of not adhering to the 2015 nuclear deal with international powers aimed at preventing it from developing a nuclear weapon.
Russia, China, Pakistan, and Algeria voted in favor of the draft resolution. Nine members voted against it, while two members abstained from voting.
