First Resolution in the U.S. Senate Calls for Recognition of the State of Palestine
SadaNews - Members of the U.S. Senate have introduced the first resolution urging recognition of the State of Palestine, in a significant shift in stance toward Tel Aviv, nearly two years after the ongoing genocide being perpetrated by Israel against the Gaza Strip.
The resolution, presented by Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley, is co-sponsored by several senators, including Chris Van Hollen from Maryland, Tim Kaine from Virginia, Peter Welch from Vermont, Tina Smith from Minnesota, Tammy Baldwin from Wisconsin, Mazie Hirono from Hawaii, and Bernie Sanders from Vermont.
The resolution calls on President Donald Trump to "recognize a demilitarized State of Palestine in accordance with international law and the principles of a two-state solution, to ensure an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, and to facilitate the return of all hostages and the flow of aid into the territory."
