Qatar's Emir in Jordan.. A Strategic Visit Amid Rising Regional Challenges

SadaNews: The visit of Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of the State of Qatar, to the Jordanian capital, Amman, today, Wednesday, carries significant political and strategic implications, especially as it comes at a sensitive time when the Arab region is facing complex security and political conditions.

This visit transcends traditional diplomatic norms, as it is expected to receive wide popular and official reception, reflecting the depth of relations between the two countries and emphasizing the importance of Jordanian-Qatari coordination in facing regional challenges, foremost among them the recent Israeli escalation.

The Emir's visit comes just a few days after the emergency Arab and Islamic summit in Doha, and following the Israeli airstrike that targeted residential buildings in the Qatari capital, which included leaders from Hamas. This timing adds another dimension to the visit, making it a turning point in the course of bilateral relations, as observers see it.

Political analyst Sultan Hatab indicates that the connection made by King Abdullah II in his speech at the summit between the aggression on Gaza and the attack on Qatar reflects a unified stance between Amman and Doha, providing Jordan with a strong impetus to enhance its regional and international role.

Hatab believes that the ongoing political coordination between the two countries could form the nucleus for shaping a collective Arab stance capable of confronting security challenges and mitigating threats to Jordan's interests and the region. Additionally, Qatar's actions bolster Jordan's ability to counter Israeli schemes and position Qatar's capabilities in the service of a unified Arab stance.

For his part, the former head of the Jordanian Royal Court, Jawad Anani, confirmed that the visit was scheduled before the Israeli attack on Qatar, but its importance has doubled afterward, noting that the king's speech at the summit strengthened Qatar's position and opened the door for broader cooperation between the two countries in facing the Israeli aggression.

According to Anani, the visit carries clear political messages, foremost of which is the assertion that the security of Arab countries is interconnected, and that the solidarity between Jordan and Qatar exemplifies a model for joint Arab action amid rising risks in Palestine, Syria, and Lebanon.

He also believes that Jordan, along with Egypt, is qualified to play a pivotal role in consolidating regional stability, especially with the Qatari support that gives Amman greater credibility in international forums.

The Qatari ambassador in Amman, Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani, emphasized that Emir Tamim's visit carries clear messages to enhance political consultation and promote bilateral cooperation in the fields of economy, education, and investment. He also confirmed that the Palestinian issue is at the forefront of coordination between the two countries, and they are working jointly to alleviate the suffering of Gaza residents by delivering humanitarian and medical assistance.

The roots of Jordanian-Qatari relations date back to before Qatar's independence in 1971, when Doha hosted Jordanian personnel in various sectors. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1972, the ties between the two countries have seen continuous development, reaching a strategic coordination on major regional issues.
