Maariv: Mossad Estimates That the Operation in Qatar Disrupted the Conclusion of a Deal
SadaNews - The Israeli newspaper Maariv reported that the Mossad estimates that it is not unlikely that the operation in Qatar may have disrupted the possibility of concluding a deal regarding the detainees.
The newspaper continued: "Mossad chief David Barnea believed that an attack in Qatar would cause more harm than benefit."
It added: "The Mossad chief thought that Hamas's response could lead to reaching a deal."
In the same context, the Jerusalem Post revealed earlier, citing informed sources, a clear division among the heads of Israeli security agencies regarding the operation carried out in Qatar, which targeted leaders of the Hamas movement.
According to the report, the security cabinet was not informed in advance about the operation, but learned about it through the media, raising questions about the decision-making processes within the Israeli government.
The sources clarified that the head of the Mossad did not oppose the operation per se, but expressed strong objections to its timing, considering that carrying it out while negotiations with Hamas are ongoing is an uncalculated move. He was quoted as saying: "You cannot eliminate Hamas leaders while negotiations with them are still ongoing."
