Macron: We are charting an irreversible path to peace in the region with Saudi Arabia
SadaNews - French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed on Friday that France and Saudi Arabia are charting an irreversible path to peace in the Middle East, expressing his welcome for the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of the "New York Declaration," which aims to give new impetus to the two-state solution.
Macron wrote on the "X" platform: "Led by France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, 142 countries adopted the New York Declaration on the two-state solution."
This came after the General Assembly adopted the text ten days before the summit to be headed by Paris and Riyadh on September 22 at the United Nations, where Emmanuel Macron pledged to recognize the State of Palestine.
It is noteworthy that at the end of July, President Macron announced that his country would recognize the State of Palestine during the General Assembly meetings held from September 9 to September 23.
Since then, more than 12 Western countries have announced that they would follow France's lead, including Belgium, France, Malta, the United Kingdom, Portugal, Finland, Luxembourg, Canada, and Germany.
Riyadh and France jointly chaired the two-state solution conference that commenced last June, with broad momentum and global consensus on a "just" resolution to the Palestinian issue and condemnation of the "starvation of Gaza."
For its part, the United Nations adopted a verbal resolution on behalf of Saudi Arabia and France regarding the resumption of the high-level international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution, by consensus without voting.
