Israeli Ambassador to the UN: We Don't Always Act in a Way that Serves America's Interests
SadaNews - On Wednesday, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Danny Danon stated that Tel Aviv does not always act according to what serves the interests of its ally, the United States, following Washington's criticism of the strikes targeting Hamas leaders in Qatar.
Danon told an Israeli radio station: "We do not always act in a way that serves the interests of the United States. We coordinate with them, and they provide us with significant support, which we appreciate, but sometimes we make decisions and inform the United States about them afterwards."
He emphasized that "the attack did not target Qatar, but was an attack on Hamas; we are not against Qatar or any Arab country, we are against a terrorist organization."
The American president, whose country is considered Israel's closest ally and also has strong ties with Qatar, where it has a large military base, said on Tuesday that he is "not happy" with the airstrikes carried out by Tel Aviv.
Trump emphasized his country's support for Qatar, which is leading, along with the United States and Egypt, mediation efforts in negotiations between Israel and Hamas since the outbreak of the war in Gaza on October 7, 2023.
