Emergency session of the Security Council to discuss Israeli strikes on Doha
SadaNews - The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency session today, Wednesday, to discuss the airstrikes launched by Israel on Doha, targeting a meeting of Hamas leaders, according to diplomatic sources.
The sources indicated that the session will be held at 19:00 GMT at the request of Algeria and Pakistan in particular.
Israel attempted to assassinate Hamas political leaders in an air raid on Qatar on Tuesday, thereby expanding the scope of its military operations in the Middle East in an attack described by the White House as unilateral and contrary to U.S. and Israeli interests.
Israel defended the attack, stating it was "completely justified," while Qatar described it as "a hundred percent treacherous operation" amounting to "state terrorism."
Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani stated that the raid threatens to undermine the peace efforts in which Doha plays a mediating role between Hamas and Israel.
