France and Belgium Condemn the US Decision Against the Palestinian Leadership
SadaNews - On Saturday, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrault condemned the United States' refusal to grant entry visas to officials from the Palestinian Authority.
Barrault emphasized before a meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Copenhagen that access to the United Nations headquarters in New York "should not be subject to any restrictions."
He stated: "The United Nations headquarters is a neutral place serving peace, and attendance at the UN General Assembly should not be subject to any restrictions."
Belgium considered the decision a "blow to diplomacy."
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxim Prévot described Washington's decision as "extremely regrettable" and a "blow to diplomacy" in a statement published on his account on the platform "X."
He added: "At a time when the two-state solution has gained new momentum, tangible commitments have been made, and international support has increased, silencing the Palestinian voice is not only unjust but also leads to counterproductive results."
The Belgian minister stressed that the United Nations must remain a platform for all peoples, "especially those whose future depends on dialogue."
He affirmed that "excluding Palestinian representatives undermines the principles of multilateralism and international law, and the path to peace requires more dialogue, not the opposite."
