The Israeli Army Awaits the 'Green Light' to Invade Gaza City and Moves to Legalize It
Sada News - The Israeli army has completed its preparations for a large-scale ground operation in northern Gaza Strip and is awaiting the 'green light' from the political level to commence execution, according to Israeli Channel 12, on Wednesday.
The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation ('Kan 11') reported that the Israeli political and security cabinet will hold another meeting next Sunday at 6 PM, where ministers are expected to approve the operational plan prepared by the Israeli army to occupy Gaza City.
This comes at a time when Tel Aviv is making efforts to gain international legitimacy for the escalation of the genocide it is waging against the Gaza Strip as part of 'Gideon's Chariots 2' operation, in anticipation of its political repercussions, amid widespread international rejection of the ongoing war escalation in the region.
The Israeli cabinet met yesterday, Tuesday, in a meeting that did not address the war on Gaza and the prisoners' file, noting that the Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, presented the operational plans in recent days to Security Minister Israel Katz and then to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Channel 12 reported that regular and reserve units have been instructed to be ready for a ground maneuver 'in the near future', while attempts are being made to diplomatically prepare the ground in anticipation of political repercussions. Preparations also include plans to establish food distribution centers and field hospitals in the southern part of the Strip.
On the ground, Israeli forces continue their daily operations of airstrikes and limited deployment. The army clarified that four brigades are currently operating on the outskirts of Gaza, particularly in the Zeitoun neighborhood and Jabalia camp, which is considered a prelude to any decision for a full incursion.
The spokesperson for the Israeli army stated that the forces 'continue to monitor and destroy infrastructure above and below ground', pointing to 'eliminating armed cells and seizing weapons caches belonging to Hamas', in addition to the entry of Engineering Battalion 607 into Gaza for the first time under the command of the 'Givati' Brigade.
Next week, on September 2, about 60,000 reservists are scheduled to join the service. Military and political circles estimate that the decision regarding the operation could be made at any moment, turning it from a written plan into a field reality.
Earlier today, the Israeli army announced that an airstrike carried out last weekend resulted in the death of Mahmoud Al-Aswad, whom it described as the 'commander of the western Gaza area in Hamas's public security apparatus', stating: 'During the war and over the past years, Al-Aswad was a central figure in the apparatus and an important source of knowledge for the movement.'
