Occupation Police Arrest 100 Workers in Jaffa Within the 48 Territories
SadaNews - More than 100 Palestinian workers from the West Bank were arrested by the Israeli occupation police in Jaffa within the 48 territories, for lacking work permits.
The General Secretary of the Palestinian General Federation of Trade Unions, Shaher Saad, stated that the Israeli government has been pursuing Palestinian workers and preventing them from working within the 48 territories for nearly two years, forcing them to take dangerous routes through "death openings" or to jump over the separation wall, in light of the lack of alternatives in the Palestinian labor market, the weakness of commercial activity, and the seizure of clearance funds alongside the suspension of public employees' salaries, which has plunged the Palestinian economy into a suffocating state.
Saad indicated that these policies have had catastrophic effects on the lives of Palestinian workers, where 38 workers have been martyred since the beginning of the aggression against our people in October 2023, while more than 12,000 cases of arrests have been recorded for workers trying to reach their workplaces or during their presence there.
He added that unemployment rates in Palestine have reached unprecedented levels, with approximately 510,000 workers unemployed, posing a serious threat to the social and living security of Palestinian families.
Saad called on the international community to intervene immediately to stop these violations and to secure the right of Palestinian workers to work freely and with dignity, as it is an inherent right guaranteed by international laws and charters.
