Despite Government Pressure.. Occupation Army Warns of Exhaustion of Its Weary Forces in Gaza
SadaNews: Military sources revealed to Yedioth Ahronoth and Haaretz newspapers that the Israeli army is refusing to comply with the pressures from the political leadership aimed at escalating military operations in the Gaza Strip, noting that the decision is based on field assessments related to the readiness of the forces, rather than humanitarian considerations.
According to the sources, the occupation forces are suffering from severe exhaustion after months of intense operations, which has led the leadership of the Israeli army to warn that any large-scale attack on Gaza city, both above and below ground, will take more than a year, similar to what happened in Beit Hanoun. This operational assessment has led the army to reject the repetition of the positions taken at the beginning of the war, which sparked internal and external controversy.
According to what was published by Haaretz, the Chief of Staff of the occupation army, Eyal Zamir, presented a plan to the Israeli government that allows for stopping the fighting immediately upon reaching an agreement with Hamas, focusing on exhausting the negotiating path to recover as many "hostages" as possible before any new escalation.
The sources confirmed that the army fears that an attack on Gaza could endanger the lives of the "hostages," which forms a sharp point of contention with the political leadership that is pushing for a military resolution.
