The "Foreign Ministry" Calls on the International Community to Take Responsibility for Gaza
SadaNews - The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has called on all countries and the international community, led by the Security Council, to deal with utmost seriousness and attention to the report issued by the International Food Security Classification (IPC), which is the first globally credible report confirming the occurrence of famine in the Gaza Strip according to United Nations standards. The report also highlights the stance of the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, indicating that the Israeli occupation is destroying all aspects and components of human life in Gaza and committing the crime of using starvation as a weapon in the war against Palestinian civilians.
The ministry praised, in a statement issued today, Friday, the findings of this report and the efforts behind it, emphasizing its commitment to human dignity. It demanded a decisive international response that ensures the occupation state is compelled to immediately cease its genocidal crimes, forced displacement, and annexation as the only means to stop, contain, and treat the famine and prevent its spread. It also called for the opening of crossings and the sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid, along with the immediate commencement of the reconstruction of Gaza.
The ministry also urged specialized international courts to assume their legal and moral responsibilities regarding the perpetrators of famine, including amplifying the voice of international law in all that the Palestinian people face in terms of genocide and ethnic cleansing in front of the world.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates confirmed that the IPC report on famine in Gaza has closed the door on interpretation and speculation regarding the occurrence of famine, leaving no room for maneuver for countries and the world. It asserted that what is now required, before it's too late, is to leverage international weight in all its forms and meanings to stop it immediately and halt the aggression against the Palestinians.
