Israel Prevents Barcelona Mayor from Entering Its Territory
SadaNews - The Israeli Population and Immigration Authority announced that the Mayor of Barcelona, Jomi Colbony, who was scheduled to arrive in Israel at midnight, has been denied entry.
The Israeli Ministry of the Interior stated today, Friday, that "the denial decision comes in accordance with the Entry to Israel Law, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Security Council," according to the Israeli newspaper "Yedioth Ahronoth."
This decision follows recent statements made by the mayor against Israel, and after the Barcelona City Council approved a decision in May to "cut ties with Israel."
Colbony intended to visit the "Yad Vashem" memorial and areas belonging to the Palestinian Authority.
It is worth noting that Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, whose country recognizes Palestine, has strongly criticized Israel, describing it as a genocidal state in light of the attacks carried out by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip.
