Casualties and Injuries in Fireworks Warehouse Explosion in Pakistan
SadaNews - The Pakistani police stated that an explosion occurred in a fireworks warehouse in Karachi, the largest city in the country, resulting in the death of four people and injuring at least 30 others yesterday (Thursday).
The fire engulfed the warehouse and some nearby shops following the explosion, which was followed by several smaller explosions, forcing residents to flee in search of safety.
The explosion shattered windows in the adjacent shops, causing glass shards to scatter onto people in the street. Karachi is Pakistan's financial capital and has a population of over 20 million.
Sumayya Tariq, a police official, reported that at least 34 people were injured and taken to hospitals, indicating that four of them died during the night, according to the Reuters news agency.
Footage aired by local news channels showed smoke rising from a multi-story building as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
The cause of the initial explosion remains unclear, and surveillance camera footage broadcast by the local Geo News channel showed people running in search of safety, with drivers hurriedly maneuvering their vehicles.
The explosion occurred a day after monsoon rains had flooded the city.
