Assassination of Journalists in Gaza: 239 Journalist Martyrs Since the Start of the Genocide War
SadaNews - The number of journalist martyrs in Gaza due to the occupation's fire has risen to 239 since the start of the genocide war on October 7, 2023, according to the government's media office in the sector announced today, Tuesday.
The government media in the sector stated in a statement, "The number of martyrs among journalists has risen to 239 since the outbreak of the genocide against the Gaza Strip, following the announcement of the martyrdom of our colleague journalist Islam Al-Koumi (due to an Israeli bombardment on the Sabra neighborhood in southern Gaza City)."
It was noted that Al-Koumi was "working as a journalist editor and content creator with several media platforms."
The government media office condemned "in the strongest terms the targeting, killing, and assassination of Palestinian journalists by the Israeli occupation in a systematic manner."
The International Federation of Journalists, the Arab Journalists' Union, and all journalistic bodies worldwide were called upon to condemn these systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media personnel in the Gaza Strip.
It was also stated that "the Israeli occupation, the American administration, and countries complicit in the crime of genocide such as the United Kingdom, Germany, and France, bear full responsibility for committing these heinous atrocities."
Israel targets journalists in Gaza despite international warnings, routinely bombing them, arresting them, or threatening them, which observers consider attempts to silence their voices that Tel Aviv regards as exposing the details of the genocide it is committing in the sector.
