Qatar: The new proposal to end the Gaza war is the best that can be offered at present
SadaNews - The spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Majed Al-Ansari, stated that the latest ceasefire proposal in Gaza, which has been approved by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), "almost coincides" with a previous plan put forth by U.S. envoy Steve Wittekov and accepted by Israel.
Al-Ansari explained in a press conference today, Tuesday, in Doha, that the proposal approved by Hamas includes a path for a permanent ceasefire and "is the best that can be offered at present" to protect the lives of civilians in Gaza.
He pointed out that mediators are awaiting a response from Israel regarding the proposal, adding, "There is no timeline for the response, but we have heard that Israel is considering it, and we hope for a quick and positive response."
Al-Ansari expressed his hope for reaching an agreement as soon as possible and implementing it immediately, emphasizing that "there are no real guarantees on the ground except for the commitment of both parties to implement the agreement."
He stated that Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman is in contact with Wittekov, and "there is a positive atmosphere" concerning the negotiations.
In the past three days, negotiations in Cairo have seen Hamas ensure the participation of all factions in order to present a unified stance and not be accused of failing the negotiations and exposing the residents of the Gaza Strip to military escalation.
