348 Deaths Due to Floods in Pakistan

SadaNews - The death toll from the devastating floods that hit northwestern Pakistan since the middle of this month has risen to 348, amid ongoing search operations for dozens of missing persons. The meteorological department has predicted more rain in the coming days, raising fears of additional flooding.

The disaster management authority announced that all government agencies continue their relief efforts, but the scale of the disaster means that the response is still in its early stages. It emphasized that those affected are in urgent need of immediate assistance.

The meteorological agency urged residents living near riverbanks to evacuate their homes immediately and move to safer areas, warning that risks would continue until the twenty-first of this month.

Locally sourced information indicated that the number of missing persons remains high, and the toll is likely to increase as search operations continue.

Social activist Muhammad Farooq Khan stated that the floods swept away massive rocks and turned vast areas into hills of stones and mud, complicating the search for missing persons, pointing out that some bodies have been found 20 kilometers away from their original locations.

In the Bonir region alone, authorities reported an increase in the death toll to 222, confirming that several villages have been completely evacuated due to fears of new floods.

Additionally, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Ali Amin Khan, visited the affected areas, pledging to provide compensation to those affected and to continue rescue and relief operations, while government and military forces, along with local volunteers, continue to work around the clock to cope with the effects of the disaster.
