Zamir in Gaza Strip: Occupying Gaza City is a Long Multi-Front Battle
SadaNews - Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir described the plan to occupy Gaza City as another phase of the military operation "Gideon's Chariots," which he announced a week ago had reached its end. During a tour in the Gaza Strip today, Sunday, he stated, "We will soon launch the next phase of the 'Gideon's Chariots' operation, within which we will deepen our targeting of Hamas in Gaza City until its defeat."
Contrary to reports from media and military analysts confirming the failure of the "Gideon's Chariots" operation, Zamir claimed today that the operation "achieved its goals, and Hamas today does not have the same capabilities it had before the operation, and we targeted it severely. The Israeli army has a moral duty to bring back the captives, both the living and the dead."
Zamir explained during his meeting with field brigade and battalion leaders the army's plans to continue the war, claiming that he "appreciates their work in the Gaza Strip these days." Notably, during the political-security cabinet meeting where the plan to occupy the entire Gaza Strip was approved ten days ago, Zamir expressed opposition to this decision and emphasized that the Israeli soldiers are exhausted from the ongoing war for over 22 months and may not be able to achieve the objectives of the comprehensive occupation plan.
Zamir stated today, according to a statement from the military spokesperson, "We approved today the plan for the next phase of the war. As it has been in recent military operations in Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, Judea and Samaria, and Gaza, we will continue to change the security reality."
Zamir claimed that "we will maintain the momentum of Gideon's Chariots by focusing on Gaza City. We will continue the attack until Hamas is defeated, with the captives in sight."
He continued, saying, "We will work according to a smart, studied, and responsible strategy. The Israeli army will use its capabilities in the air and sea to target Hamas with great force."
Zamir hinted at expanding the war in the region again, stating, "The current battle is not localized; it is another pillar in a long-term, planned strategy, with a multi-front vision to target all components of the axis, with Iran at the forefront."
Zamir's statements come alongside protests in several cities since this morning, demanding an end to the war and the return of the prisoners held in the Gaza Strip, which included disrupting traffic on major roads in the country and within cities like Tel Aviv.
