In Preparation for the Upcoming General Elections: The President Issues a Decree to Form a Committee for Drafting the Interim Constitution

SadaNews - In preparation for the upcoming general elections following the cessation of aggression and the withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces, and the assumption of the State of Palestine's responsibilities in the Gaza Strip, the President of the State of Palestine, Mahmoud Abbas, issued a presidential decree today, Sunday, to form a committee for drafting the interim constitution to transition from authority to state.

According to the decree, the committee will serve as a legal reference for drafting the interim constitution, in line with the Declaration of Independence, the principles of international law, international legitimacy resolutions, international human rights treaties, and related international agreements, in preparation for the realization of the State of Palestine and its institutions through the development of a draft constitution that solidifies the constitutional foundations for a democratic system of governance based on the rule of law, the separation of powers, and the respect and protection of public rights and freedoms, along with the peaceful transfer of authority.

Based on the presidential decree regarding the formation of the interim constitution drafting committee, the President issued a decision naming the chair and members of the committee, which includes various national, political, and community figures, as well as legal and constitutional competencies, while considering the representation of civil society and gender.

The committee is chaired by Mohamed Al-Haj Qassem, with members including: Ziad Abu Amro, Ahmad Majdalani, Mohamed Shtayyeh, Mahmoud Al-Habbash, Wael Lafi, Fares Al-Jalad, Mohamed Al-Shallalda, Fadi Abbas, Iman Nasser Al-Din, Mitri Al-Rahib, Sana Al-Sarghali, and Munir Salama serving as the committee's secretary.
