Mossad Chief Visits Qatar.. An Israeli Official Confirms: No Connection to Gaza
SadaNews - Israeli media reported that the head of the Mossad, David Barnea, visited Qatar to discuss a deal in Gaza with the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
However, a senior Israeli political official told Channel 12 that "the Mossad chief traveled to Qatar to discuss Mossad affairs, not negotiations over the hostage deal," adding that "the Mossad chief even clarified in the meeting that a partial deal had been abandoned."
The same sources confirmed, according to the channel, that "meetings in Cairo continue between a Hamas delegation and Egyptian officials."
They indicated that "Egypt is intensifying its communications with various parties to overcome points of disagreement and reach a truce agreement that leads to ending the war."
The sources noted that "the Hamas delegation in Cairo appreciates the Egyptian efforts made to allow humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip and to halt the fighting."
On Tuesday, the same channel reported, citing unnamed sources, that a delegation from "Hamas" led by Khalil Al-Hayya arrived in Egypt, as part of intensive efforts by Cairo to reach a 60-day ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
"Cairo News" also confirmed, quoting an unnamed Egyptian source on Wednesday, that Hamas "has expressed its eagerness to quickly return to negotiations for a ceasefire and a truce in preparation for ending the war in Gaza," noting that "Egypt is intensifying communications with all parties to achieve a truce in preparation for ending the war."
Additionally, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati stated in a press conference on Tuesday that Cairo is working with Qatar and the United States on "returning to the 60-day truce proposal in Gaza."
Abdel Aati did not provide further details about the proposal mentioned, but discussions about it emerged during the last round of indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel in Doha, which ended on July 25 without yielding any results.
