The Interior Ministry Investigates Incident at Sweida Hospital "To Bring the Accused to Justice"
SadaNews - With the beginning of the return of a number of displaced persons to the Sweida province in southern Syria after the clashes it witnessed, the governor of Sweida, Dr. Mustafa al-Bakour, confirmed that the Ministry of the Interior is investigating the incident at the hospital to bring the accused to justice.
As the return of some displaced people to the Sweida province in southern Syria began after the clashes it witnessed, Governor Dr. Mustafa al-Bakour confirmed that the Ministry of the Interior is investigating the hospital incident to bring the accused to justice.
However, he clarified that "the Ministry of Health cannot access inside the hospital to understand the circumstances of the case."
He stressed that the secret authorities "condemn violations from any side it came."
"A Significant Shortage of Services"
Additionally, he pointed out that there is a significant shortage of services in Sweida, noting that the province is working to address it. Al-Bakour stated that "any local organization providing assistance is facilitated for their entry."
He also confirmed in separate statements that the province "is working in coordination with the concerned authorities to restore life to more than 17 villages and towns in the eastern countryside of Sweida, which suffer from a lack of drinking water, electricity, medical services, and schools due to what it has witnessed from battles and vandalism, and the previous regime's militias stealing its properties and destroying its homes, making it possible to secure the return of 50,000 residents to the area."
Hospital Video
Last week, several Syrian human rights activists called for an independent investigation into the violence that occurred last month in the predominantly Druze province of Sweida, following the release of a video on Sunday showing armed individuals alleged to be security forces killing a volunteer paramedic at the city hospital. The footage, taken from security cameras in the main hospital in Sweida city on July 16, shows a group of individuals appearing to be employees kneeling in one of the corridors, while some armed men, some dressed in military attire, stood in front of them.
The clip also documented a short scuffle between an armed man and a person who appeared to be a volunteer with the medical staff in the hospital, according to local media reports.
After that, the armed man shot the person, and his body was dragged away, with blood stains visible on the ground.
It is noteworthy that Sweida, located in the south of the country, experienced clashes that lasted for a week on July 13 between Druze fighters and Bedouin tribes, prompting government security forces to intervene to stop the clashes between the Druze and the Bedouins, and they sought to broker a ceasefire agreement between the two sides.
While about 200,000 people were displaced due to the conflict, according to United Nations estimates.
