Ben Gvir Calls for the Demolition of the Tomb of Izz ad-Din al-Qassam in Haifa

SadaNews - Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has called for the demolition of the grave of martyr Izz ad-Din al-Qassam located in "Nesher," which was built on the ruins of the displaced Palestinian town of Sheikh in the Haifa district.

Ben Gvir told the Nesher mayor during a hearing session of the Knesset's Internal Affairs Committee yesterday, "I have issued an order to demolish the grave of Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, and the police will carry out the demolition and secure it."

He added, "Terrorists should not rest even in death."

This is not the first time Israeli officials have called for the demolition or removal of the grave of Izz ad-Din al-Qassam located in the Nesher cemetery.

On August 6, Isaac Kruzer, a Knesset member from the "Jewish Power" party, which Ben Gvir leads, called for the removal of al-Qassam's grave.

The far-right deputy visited the grave site in July and called for immediate action to remove it, stating, "The grave should not be a shrine for supporters of terrorism."

Martyr Sheikh Izz ad-Din al-Qassam, born in 1883 in Jableh on the Syrian coast, led an armed resistance movement against the French and British occupations in Syria and Palestine in the early 20th century, and was martyred on November 19, 1935, in a battle against British forces near the city of Jenin.

In honor of his name and in recognition of his struggle against colonialism, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) named its military wing "Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades."
