Egypt Enhances Gas Imports Through Maritime Facilities in Jordan
SadaNews - Egypt began receiving 300 million cubic feet of natural gas daily from the floating storage and regasification unit "Energeos Force," docked at the port of Aqaba in Jordan, according to a government official.
The official added that the ship arrived at the port of Aqaba last week loaded with a shipment of liquefied gas for Egypt, and starting this week it will begin delivering 300 million cubic feet per day to Egypt.
Egypt currently has 4 regasification ships, 3 of which are located within the country in Ain Sokhna, and one in the port of Aqaba. The three ships provide a total of 2.8 billion cubic feet of gas according to the country's needs. A fifth ship is expected to be added before the end of this year.
Egypt's current natural gas production is estimated at 4.06 billion cubic feet per day, while local demand is around 7 billion cubic feet per day, with demand from power plants for fuel increasing as temperatures rise during the summer months.
The Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum did not comment.
It is estimated that Egypt will import around 46 shipments of liquefied gas during August and September of this year, at an estimated cost of 2.6 billion dollars, to meet the needs of power plants, according to what a government official confirmed at the end of July.
