Zamir: The Beginning of a New Phase of Fighting in Gaza According to Set Goals
SadaNews - Israeli Chief of Staff, Eyal Zamir, said on Monday that his army is currently at the "beginning of a new phase of fighting" in the Gaza Strip, noting that this comes in accordance with the goals set by the Israeli government.
Zamir mentioned in statements, according to a statement issued by the Israeli army on Monday evening: "We are at the beginning of a new phase of fighting in Gaza; we will develop the best methods based on the defined objectives, while maintaining the professionalism and principles under which we operate."
He added that "the hostages (Israeli captives in Gaza) are in front of our eyes, and we will do our utmost to preserve their lives and bring them back."
The Israeli Chief of Staff stated that "we must give the soldiers of the Israeli army, both regular and reserves, a chance to breathe, and to create pauses that allow for the continuation of maneuvers in the Gaza Strip to the fullest extent, while preserving strength for the future."
He added that "the next situation assessment will address only the individuals."
Earlier today, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said during the inauguration of the Knesset Museum in the "Beit Frumin" building, which was the first Knesset headquarters in Jerusalem, that "the war in Gaza is close to its end along with the liberation of all the kidnapped, and we are working to defeat what remains of the Iranian axis," referring to Hamas.
Netanyahu also claimed that "the international community has grown accustomed to seeing us as a victim, and it is difficult for them to see us as a people that bears its sword in hand. This has not stopped us in our great actions that we are undertaking for the eternity of Israel."
