Trump Announces Federal Control Over Washington D.C. Police
SadaNews - President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will place the Washington D.C. Police Department under federal control and deploy the National Guard in the city, stating that this move aims to restore order in the nation's capital.
Trump said during a press conference at the White House: "I am officially activating Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act, you know what that means, and I am placing the Washington D.C. Police Department under direct federal control."
The president informed a crowd of reporters that his actions come because "there is something that has gone out of control, but we will bring it back under control very quickly, just as we did at the southern border."
Trump added: "I am deploying the National Guard to help reestablish law and order and public safety in Washington D.C., and they will be allowed to do their jobs properly."
The American president displayed documents containing several graphs that he said show the crime rate in Washington D.C. compared to crime rates in other countries, including Baghdad, Panama City, San Jose, Colombia, and others.
Trump claimed that the crime rate in Washington is double or triple that seen in those countries. He stated: "So, do you want to live in places like that? I don’t think so. I don’t think so."
